The Making Process
Each ring featured on this site has undergone its own unique journey.
The Process begins with hammer and chisel, carving directly into steel. Steel provides a robust canvas allowing deep, deliberate forms to be sculpted with precision. The ancient practice of hammer and chisel carving carries a distinct character - working through the metal, gradually bringing the piece to life..
Every surface of the ring is considered and carved, fully utilising the space and transforming the original steel into something wonderful and new.
Once a steel ring is made, it can be cast in silver where it becomes a canvas for more carving and engraving, building layers of detail through fine cuts and reflective facets. In this stage the piece is not fixed- the engraving drives it forward, sometimes deepening and enhancing the original form, other times pulling it into a new direction. This stage allows the design to evolve rather than simply be decorated.
The final piece is a fusion of crafts: the force and spontaneity of hammer and chisel, combined with the precision and control of hand engraving.
The outcomes tend to carry an ancient and mythical tone..
Some pieces are finnished in oxidation, creating a darker, more atmospheric surface where fine details become more pronounced. Others are finished with polished facets, reflecting light across the surface and creating dynamic shifts and highlights as the ring moves.
Alongside the different finishes, variations can be made to order in a range of sizes..
